How long does it take?
This is one of the more complicated procedures we perform. The time required can vary significantly depending on factors such as amount of data to backup, computer speed, internet connection speed, programs that need to be reinstalled, and any quirks specific to your hardware configuration. Three to six hours is typical time frame.

What is involved?
We will first make a backup of the data you wish to preserve (unless you have your own backups). After doing so, we will erase everything on your computer and reinstall the operating system from scratch (Windows, Mac OS, Linux, etc). This operation leaves you with a "clean slate", much as your computer was when you bought it. The process can fix virtually any software issues you may be having (i.e., unless your computer is physically broken, this should fix everything). After reinstalling the system, weI will copy your files from the backup to your new system. It sounds like an ordeal but it needn’t be – for usually just a few dollars and a phone call your system can be purring along like new.

Our standard rate is $49/hour. Alternatively, I can do this work for a flat fee of $249 If you would like the flat rate, you must let me know prior to beginning work. Otherwise, all work will be billed at the hourly rate. Best Buy Geek Squad: $400

Will my data be preserved?
We will backup all data prior to reinstalling the system. Once the install is complete, weI will restore everything to where it was on the old system. All your files will be saved. Unfortunately, with Windows, it is generally not possible to restore your old programs from a backup. Most software today is available online and the installers can simply be downloaded again. However, if you have installed programs that are not available for download, you will need the original install discs in order to install these programs on your new system. For instance, if you have a lot of Microsoft Word documents, these documents will all be saved, however, Microsoft Word itself cannot be saved, and you will need to reinstall it from the discs before you can use it again.

Can you install a newer system on my computer?
We can install any operating system you have a license for. You will always have a license for the system that shipped with your computer (for Windows systems, this can be found on a small sticker affixed to some part of your computer). However, if you want usme to install a system newer than the one your system shipped with, you may have to purchase a new copy of Windows or the Mac OS. IWe cannot legally provide you with Windows license keys.
